Kenya 7s team, Shujaas, will not have an easy ride in the season’s last leg in Paris as they seek to conclude their 2017/18 season on a high.
The Kenya sevens have been pooled together with London7s winners Fiji, who have won the main cup four times consecutively and five times out of nine so far. Kenya has met Fiji in two main cup finals this season in Vancouver and Hong Kong with the Fijians emerging winners in both occasions. Fiji is currently top of rankings with 167 points.
Kenya’s pool also has Cape Town main cup winners, New Zealand, an equally strong team having managed a semi-finals spot in all but one leg in this season. New Zealand are currently occupying third spot in this season’s rankings with 133 points.
The other team in the group is Samoa, a once feared team in sevens circles but has not been doing well lately. Kenya has a tally of 101 points so far and considering only top two teams in each pool proceed to quarterfinals, Shujaas have to work extra hard to overcome Fiji and New Zealand for a season’s happy ending. It will be nice seeing Shujaas lifting the Main Cup trophy in Paris having fallen short twice to Fijians in Vancouver and Hong Kong.
The last leg of the season, Paris 7s, will be taking place in the weekend of 9th-10th June.
