Kenya Premier League title sponsors Sportpesa have no problem with the FKF’s proposal of an 18-team league up from the current 16-team league.
Sportpesa’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Kester Shimonyo, added his voice on the ongoing stalemate between FKF and KPL on whether to expand the league or remain unchanged. The CMO said that a resolution on the issue is urgently required,”We are doing so many things with KPL and FKF and therefore want them to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”
Shimonyo said expanding the league should not be a problem all what is required is an agreement among the stakeholders,“It is not our place to dictate on the matter, but we have no problem with increasing the number of teams.”
It should be remembered that one of the issues that KPL is raising is the high cost of running an expanded league. Regarding the issue, Shimonyo had this to say, “Should it (expanded league) require more money we can sit down and agree on how to increase the same.”
Shimonyo also attended the Saturday’s meeting in which both FKF and KPL stood their ground. Another meeting between the parties is expected to come up with an agreement on the way foward.
