The Runyenjes League (Embu East Sub County) enters the second round of its 2020 season tomorrow. Eight matches are slotted in different grounds across the constituency.
Leaders Ena will travel to Kathanjuri in what will be their first major test of the season. They sailed past KIKAKA in the first round but will need much more grit to go through this one.
Kegonge will be at home against fellow newcomers Karries. The school side will be in high spirits after defeating Mukuria in the first round and edging Kigumo 3-1 in a friendly on Friday.
Box One Kanja will be away to Kathunguri. The former were 3-0 winners last week. This week, they come up against a side looking to bounce back from a 3-2 first-round loss. Kathunguri will be especially keen to get their season going in front of their home fans.
Here’s the full fixture for the weekend action:
The Runyenjes league is already generating excitement one week in, with the talk of potential champions already coming out. Ena claim they are in it to defend it, but Karemba Cup Champions Kathanjuri are up to block that. Kathunguri have lurked in the top positions for the last two seasons and are also going to give it a good go.
Kanja are also a strong side and will be looking to make their presence felt. Kegonge has an outfit that trains together every day of the week and will be keen to make that count. Mwamba, who travel to Kaathari to face KIKAKA, are also looking to bounce from the ashes and reclaim their place among Runyenjes’ elite.
It is interesting to see the league unpredictable as much, as it means most teams in it are capable of springing surprises. No one is talking of Ugweri, for instance, a team that has showed its abilities in the Embu County League and constituency tournaments.
So we let the feet do the talking. That happens in the above-stated grounds tomorrow, starting 3 pm.
See you there!
