Runyenjes Football kicked off a new season on Sunday. After a successful debut season that eneded in February, the competition has epanded in the new season.

Twelve teams will now fight it out for the crown of the league after Shaolin, Kisimani, and Runyenjes were promoted to the County League. In the new season you – and me too- will try to get used to referring the leaue as Embu East Sub-County League. Not as easy as saying ‘Runyenjes East,’ but we will try, si ndio?

New sides

Kiangungi, Ugweri, Nduuri, St. Lwanga and Ngarari will be joining the league for the first time. Shaolin B will also be playing at this level as their senior teams plays in the County League. Twins FC will be the name for the team based at Kivuria, rebranding from last season’s Stunners FC. Ena, Gikuuri, Kavangua, Kanja, and Kathunguri will be making a second shot at the sub-county championship.

Homeless Nthagaiya

Nthagaiya will be absent from this season’s competition. The young promising side is without a suitable home ground after their field was graded in the first phase of pitch renovations by area Member of National Assembly Eric Muchangi ‘Karemba.’

Here are the full match day 1 results:

Ngarari 0-2 Shaolin B (walk-over)
Ena 3-2 Gikuuri
Ugweri 2-0 Nduuri
Kavangua 0-0 St Lwanga
Kanja 2-2 Twins
Kathunguri 3-1 Kiangungi

Kathunguri lead

The first round of matches means Kathunguri sit atop the Runyenjes football standings on goal difference. They are level on points with Shaolin B, Ena and Ugweri. Ugweri was the only new side to win on the day but was also playing another newcomer.

Kanja and Twins shared the spoils at Kanja while Kavangua also took a remarkable point against Lwanga. This promises to be another tough season. The quality of the sides and the speed of the league as the region looks to align itself with the FIFA Calendar tells it all.

At One9, we are all set to bring you all the action as it unfolds. Keep it here and keep talking to us in the comments.

Update: Ngarari have been struck off the fixture list after failing to honour their very first match.
