The teen who is setting Man United fans’ blood rushing- and similarly drawing rivals’ criticism- was again at the center of action as United collected a point in Moscow to go second in group B yesterday night. Anthony Martial gave away a penalty that led to Seydou Dombia’s CSKA goal but later headed home Valencia’s cross to deny the Russians all three points. The handball has been termed by United coach Louis Van Gaal as a ‘stupid reaction.’
United appeared to struggle in the first half with Captain Wayne Rooney notably off pace. CSKA kept them chasing for large patches of the interval, but, save for Martial’s unfortunate handball, the Red devils were able to keep out any attacking threat. David de Gea was again instrumental, saving Roman Eremenko’s penalty but could not get to the right end of Doumbia’s rebound.
Elsewhere, Kevin de Bruyne scored in stoppage time to complete a Man City comeback and hand the premier league leaders a 2-1 group D home win against Sevilla. Manuel Pelegrini’s side had fallen behind to Yevhen Konoplyanka’s goal after the 26 y/o Ukrainian turne in Vitolo’s in one of Sevilla’s quick counter attacks. Yaya Toure was outstandin for City, feeding Wilfreid Bony for the equalizer and later Bruyne for the winner.
