The London leg of the HBSC Sevens series may not have been the best outing for the Kenya 7s, best known as Shujaas, in the 2017/18 season but nevertheless they have something to be proud of.
For the first time in history, the national rugby sevens team hit the 100 points mark in the London leg with the Paris 7s leg to spare that will be happening next weekend of 9th-10th June. The Shujaas team has managed 101 points. It should not be forgotten that on the onset of the season, coach Innocent Simiyu set 100 points as his target for the season. This is the best point tally the team has ever managed with 98 being the closest attained in 2015/16 season during the reign of the highly celebrated and current coach of USA7s Mike Friday.
To top up the celebrations, Kenya 7s won the Challenge Cup trophy after punishing Wales 33-19 in the finals.
This might not be a good outing for Shujaas being the second time in nine legs that the team has failed to proceed to quarter finals. That is however overshadowed by the Challenge Cup win and best points tally.
From our desk, Congratulations our heroes and we wish you all the best in the upcoming Paris 7s.
