There has been a notable change in the team list this season. Triumph FC climbed to the higher Division 2. Muchonoke FC is absent from the league list. Black Cats has dropped to the district league as they look to bring through a generation of new talent. Most of Black Cat’s senior players have moved to Inter Dunga, a town side with which they share a close relationship.

Dark cloud

The league begins at a time when a dark cloud is yet to clear in the Embu football community following the death of Chairman Hussein Swaleh in a plane crash. Swaleh was in the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines plane on his way from match commissioner duties in Egypt. CAF officials visited the country in midweek in his honor as identification and burial plans continue.

The league season will come to a close around the July. This is line with the country’s transition to an August-May season.

Update: Kiangima will not be participating in the league season having failed to meet registration guidelines. That leaves 12 teams in the Embu County League 2019 season.
