ECL, Embu County’s elite football league, entered a successful third round on Sunday. Six matches were played in different venues with similarly variant results.

Top Spot

Manchester United maintained top spot with a home win over Yatte. It was, however, no walk in the park as they had to fight for a 1-0 win. The match was a clear indicator of a league that keeps getting more competitive with every single round.

3K kept up the pressure on Man U with another edgy win at home. The former champions edged Juventus 1-0 and struggled more than anyone would have anticipated at their Kagumori home ground. Juventus’ fight and narrow loss was a sign of a team ready to challenge the big sides in its debut season.

First wins

Elsewhere, Kaa Ngumu collected their first maximum points in a 2-1 win over Runyenjes at Moi Stadium Embu. The visitors were left aggrieved by what their captain felt were unfavorable officiating decisions in the first match of a double header.

Kaa Ngumu vs Runyenjes set the pace for the match of the day, FC Inter Dunga Dunga vs Shaolin. The two teams which share a lot in common clashed in a 3 pm clash that was, as usual, generously watched. The end to end tactical affair ended in a 1-1 draw.

Mbuko Arena, Kaathari, Kathageri, bore blessings for home side Kisimani as they beat Green Everton 3-1. The home side collected their first win of the County league in a celebrated version in front of their home fans.

Kangami had a less than satisfying round as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Gaturi. Joseph Mbiti’s side played to a second successive draw after drawing at Runyenjes last week.

Standing

Sunday’s results leave Manchester in top position. The Kairuri side has three wins from three assignments and is holding off 3K on goal difference. Juventus sit third with six points.

Dunga are fourth with four points, ahead of Kisimani on goal difference. Yatte are sixth with thre points, ahead of Kaa Ngumu on Head to Head. Kangami sit in eighth position, Shaolin are ninth and Runyenjes are tenth.

Gaturi are in position 11 and Green Everton round off the log without a single point,

What next?

The league enters matchday four this coming Sunday. Yatte welcome Inter Dunga in the headline match of the day at Embu Stadium. Shaolin welcome Kaa Ngumu at the Shaolin Temple. Runyenjes will be at home against Kisimani. Gaturi welcome 3K and Green Everton play Kangami at Kiriari.

Juventus will be at their Kihumbu home ground against leaders Manchester.
