The football team representing Embu County n the ongoing Kenya Inter County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games at Kisii bowed out at the group stages after finishing third in their group on Wednesday. Embu County finished behind Nandi and hosts Kisii, therefore missed out on the any of the two knockout round slots.
Kajiado County finished bottom of the group.
The Land of Opportunities’ representatives played to a 1-1 draw with Kajiado, but were trudged 3-0 by the hosts and 5-2 by the people from the land of Samoei in the matches played at the Gusii Stadium. It was a disappointing blow for the team comprising of county government workers drawn from different departments seeing as they have been holding regular training sessions at the Moi Stadium for over a month.
The result is likely to raise questions regards the mode used to put the team together as well as the composition of the coaching and technical team. Despite having a handful of players from some of the leading teams in the County League, there was no direct involvement of either the teams or the FKF office in the process.
On a more positive note, the county’s representatives in other disciplines- both sports and culture- are still in the running for the top prize. There are teams participating in pool, darts, basketball, and choir competitions among other disciplines.
